this fad is sure long lived. way back in the dark ages of 1954 when i was
born, my mother insisted on breastfeeding (her mother pointed to her flat
chest, and said what with? convincing her to breastfeed no matter what). her
doctor was sympathetic and encouraging, but gave her much bad advice,
including - what else? - nurse on one side per feeding.

despite this and other bad ideas, including being called a cow in the
maternity ward, she breastfed for three months! she looks back and thinks
this was so awful, i only wish every single mother today would nurse for
"only" three months. it would sure be a start.
