I would REALLY hope you are not such an incompetent pediatrician that
unless you weighed a baby you couldn't tell if it was dying or needing
supplementation.  Really now.  You're better than that aren't you?

It's like that Chicago Hope episode... am I supposed to REALLY believe no
nosy in laws or assertive pediatrician (what happened to that 2 and 4 week
checkup I took my son to?!) caught that??? I mean *really*.

Of COURSE we all would rather see all babies live on formula than some die
of breastfeeding failure (or as Dr. Jack would say, NOT breastfeeding).
The #1 rule last I heard was FEED THE BABY.  But there's *no* reason
whatsoever a baby should be dying of malnutrition dehydration not
breastfeeding whatever with or without the aid of a scale!  It's not being
afraid of what I will see, it's being afraid of what nonsense advice the
poor mom is going to get because her infant doesn't gain the exact
prescribed amount.
