I apologize for including part of Theresa's post with my last posting which
was already long enough.
Karen's post made me think of another horrible pre-school nursing story, the
first and perhaps the only time when I met a mother and I thought, ahh, this
is a case where a woman shouldn't breastfeed.
This was her third child, wanted and loved, but she hated breastfeeding and
only did it because she knew it was best for the baby and so committed for 4
months. The baby was born with some serious health problems and was
hospitalized early on, I don't know what they were. She brought the baby to
a board meeting and did everything possible to not nurse him, the jiggling,
entire ballgame, and finally in exasperation and visible disgust caved into
nursing him expressing audibly her dislike of doing it and how she couldn't
wait til she could stop. The poor mite was very scrawny and old-man
looking and it hit me like a lightning bolt, an uncomfortable feeling, that
this poor baby might have been better off if he had been formula fed. Then
perhaps some would have fed him lovingly and fed him enough. It was very
sad.
Now I really am going no-mail!
