In all these posts talking about pumping on the first day, shouldn't that read "extracting milk", by whatever method?

Hi Pamela and all,

There is some newly published research that Jan Barger mentioned when she and Carole Peterson were here last May. It shows that pumping within the first two hours of birth provides a bolus of colostrum due to the oxytocin "rush" from delivery and that is why babies who nurse in the delivery room get such a nice feed. (we always suspected this...now there is research to back it up!). We used this information to get two pumps dedicated to Labor & Delivery with the preemie pumping pattern.

I can share a copy if you'd like to email me privately so I can attach the document.
Best regards,
Mary Kay Smith
