Just to add anecdotal evidence to Sharon's informative post - in many of
the working moms I work with, just increasing protein in the diet can
result in a rapid supply increase. Since these women are pumping for up to
half of their feedings, they see decreases in supply immediately, and don't
always have the subtle balance of baby's increasing feeds to keep supply in
balance.  Increased protein intake and improved hydration seem to have the
most immediate effects on increasing supply for these moms (and pumping or
nursing more, of course)
