Dear Lactnetters, I have mother's permission to post. Her daughter has
just had her cleft palate repaired at 8+ months. The baby did breast feed
briefly and then used a haberman nurser until a few weeks before surgery.
Cup feeding was started at that time to prepare for the two week post
operative period when no sucking was recommended by the surgeon. Mom has
breastfed her 3 older children and really would like to breastfeed this baby
( and stop pumping). Mom does attend La Leche League.

I did talk with mom about using lots of skin to skin, Mom did request
information about nipple shields and their use. Does anyone have any other
recommendations? I have not had experience with this situation. Thanks (in
advance). Sincerely, Rachel Wahl RN IBCLC
