Dr. Mimi,

I'm not sure if you were referring to my post or another poster who later
commented on it, however, I respectfully stand by my statement below:

"When pediatricians try to thwart good public health messages and practices
it looks like they have a vested interest in keeping babies and children
sick."

That statement was used to end my letter to the AAP addressing the Ad
Council campaign situation. I do not believe that this is a generalization
about all pediatricians. Your points are well taken. However, I have seen
some highly unethical behavior on the part of *some* pediatricians that can
lead me to only this conclusion.

My husband is entirely convinced that pediatricians that do not
enthusiastically support bf are truly working to keep children sick to
ensure they have a thriving practice and make more money. I argue w/ him
that this just cannot be true, but he firmly believes it. All kinds of
people really do thwart bf for a variety of reasons, some devious and some
altruistic.
