In Wisconsin, the WI State BF Coalition - BF Promotion Committee -
put together a BF Month packet and sent it to every WIC project,
local BF Coaltion and every member on the State Coaltion. In this
packet is the following: Promotional posters, copy of the governor's
proclamation to make Aug WI BF Month, suggested actions (similar to
those printed in GLOBE), a sample newpaper article RE:
Working/School and BF, activity evaluation form (to report back on
local activities at the end of the month), sample mayoral
proclamation, sample press releases, Tips on Approaching Your Local
Media to cover World BF Week (Medela), Children and adult book lists,
suggested children's book which may be used as a BF incentive gift
for moms, "Making the Code Work" (1994 WBW), Innocenti Declaration,
National BF Media Watch information (Texas). In addition, the State
WIC project has some special arrangement with WI TV stations to
broadcast some BF/WIC ads - not exactly PSAs because they get better
air times - during the month of August. State WIC does all the foot
work on this. Locals just have to write to local TV stations and
thank them for airing and give them suggstions for times.

Our local BF coaltion has decided to do the following: newspaper
article RE: How dads and grandmas can be supportive to BF (I wrote
this and will E-mail it to you if you write me by my E-mail and let
me know you want it), library displays of books for children and
mothers in two different towns, request one town's mayor as well as
the county administrator to proclaim it BF month in their respective
town/county - and subsequent press with the signing of these
proclamations. In addition, the above newspaper article was
submitted to 2 weekly newpapers in the area. Finally, our local
coaltion has decided to make this dads/grandmas issue our theme this
year, so we are also organizing a speakers bureau of our members who
will go to any civic, business, church, etc. group of women and/or
men to discuss advantages of BF and how to be supportive. To
accomplish this, we are developing a data base of potential
organizations (will be done by Sept.) and will then send a cover
letter offering our speaker's bureau during this year. Hope these
groups would be interested in FREE speakers. Hoping to get to church
groups, extension homemakers, Kiwanis, Optimists, Univ. women
sorority, etc. Will have to let you know later if we get any takers.

The above activities do not include what individual members do in
their place of work - bulletin boards, special classes, paycheck
stuffers, etc.

Would love to hear what you other Lactnetters are doing to
"celebrate" BF week.
