Hello! I am new to this list and have a question that I hope you can help me with. I work in the Quality Improvement department of a medium size hospital and one of areas of responsiblity include working with our Mother/Baby units.

We have a woman in our childbirth class that is having an unusual problem and her doctor has not been able to help her. This woman is 8 months pregnant and has been experiencing an intense burning pain in her nipples. Her nipples become erect, discolored- purple (venous congestion) and feel like a "blow torch" . The only relief she gets is with warm packs, similar to what hunters put in their gloves, or a hair dryer blowing warm air over them. Her palms sweat a lot. Originally, she thought the changes in temperature precipitated this, but happens without identifying cause. Once the nipples are soft/pink again, the pain subsides. Duration 5mins. to 25. Thanks for your help.
