Had a call from a concerned woman today. She is concerned about a 7 week
old baby whose Mother is drinking. She doesn't know how much, Mother won't
tell. The concerned woman stayed a week with the new Mother and baby and
knows starting at noon the Mother starts drinking hides it in a cup with a
lid, friend tasted a few times to find either beer or wine. Friend thinks
Mother might also be drinking vodka who knows. Concerned friend wants to
know how long alcohol stays in milk effects etc. Mother feeds ABM for a
few feedings after drinking to "avoid" the alcohol effect for baby. I
talked about supply and demand and the effects of skipping feedings with no
pumping during those feedings. Any info would help put friends mind at
ease. Friend intends to give info in a tactful way to Mother so friend
will feel she has done what she could to help educate.
