Hi! My name is Linda Moore. I'm an RN, working in an outpatient department
of a hospital. Our department does home visits to the post-partum families.
We also do telephone follow-up, as well as are the lactation consultants.
We also all have passed the IBCLC exam. I am married, and have six children.

I have been asked by a friend to find out if anyone knows/has had any
experience with breastfeeding a child post-op cleft palate repair. This
person tried to breastfeed exclusively for the first month, but infant had
very slow weight gain due to inability to get good seal. Mom has been
pumping and feeding by bottle her breastmilk. Baby is now 5 months old.
Surgery is still 4 - 5 months away. The surgeons don't know of any cases of
succesful breastfeeding post-op. Is this because of the surgery, or because
of weaning to ABM by this time. She does put baby to breast to nuzzle.

TIA (figuring out the lingo)

Linda Moore, RN, BSN, IBCLC
