I know of a condition called geographic tongue. I once believed that it
was a herpes virus. My understanding now is that it is an oportunistic
virus that lives in some people, mostly women, and presents itself when
stress levels are high an immunity levels are low. To the best of my
knowledge there is not "cure" and its presence is not concerning unless
it is causing discomfort. Perhaps comfort measures such as frequent
brushing to reduce bacterial irritation, or over the counter numbing
agents such as oragel, or camphophenique (sp) would help with the pain.
I've been told that swishing liquid antacids helps too. Above all,
getting back to a healthy diet and resting are probably the best bet!
Hope this helps.
