Hi Alice,

A couple of days ago, you wrote: <<I would love to rent a boat or a
catamaran. Maybe even join a group on a yacht. Is anyone else going to do
that?>>

Well, I'm not going to ILCA, but I couldn't resist trying to find out about
the possibilites of renting a catamaran or small boat in Boca Raton.
Unfortunately, the Boca Raton Resort doesn't rent small catamarans or
dinghies. They do have sailboards/windsurfers at the Beach Club and they've
got yacht charters at the Marina. The resort's website does not list the
rates for either sailboard rentals or yacht charters and excursions. The
resort does have some powerboats for rent if you'd like that.

I also checked US Sailing's online database of places to rent sailboats. The
closet places to Boca Raton that rent small sailboats are Shake-A-Leg Miami
and the Key Biscayne Yacht Club. There may very well be someplace closer than
Miami to rent a sailboat; I just can't seem to find that information though.
If you want to check out the database for yourself, go to ussailing.org,
mouse over Getting Started and click on Places to Sail. You can get a list of
places in Florida that rent sailboats along with the types of sailboats they
rent.

I did try a Google search for "Boca Raton" and "sailing", but didn't find
anything useful. I did find, though, that one of the results returned was
from the online conference information on the ILCA website. Btw, did you know
that ILCA also means International Lightning Class Association? For the
landlubbers on Lactnet, Lightnings are 19 foot sailboats used for both
daysailing and racing.

Finally, you can always ask the conceirge at the hotel where you might rent a
boat.

Hope this helps.

Fair winds,
