Marie,
I first heard about the "original" concept of keeping baby to one breast
until s/he either detaches or falls asleep at an LLL traveling workshop
several years ago. The more I thought about it, the more sense it made to
me. We have our wonderful rules about using both breasts at each feeding,
and I remember trying to do this with my first baby, only he tanked up so
quickly on my fire-hydrant breasts that I literally had to switch at the
3-5 minute mark to get him to the other side! My babies all usually
tanked up on one breast in the early weeks, and gradually grew into
taking both breasts. It seems so logical to throw away the
clock---again---- and follow baby's lead here. I am not surprised at all
about this discussion of overloading on lactose, especially for us "high
volume producers"; I wish that I had understood this better several years
ago. Once again, leaving things to nature seems to be the best course,
doesn't it?

I have found that vitamins and fluoride prescribed for babies causes
colic, but not maternal vitamins. Do we know which of the many may be
causing the problem?

Thanks for the informative post.

-Lisa
