With my experience with engorgement (it felt like a broken bone in my
boobs), I found incredible relief with ice. My daughter, however, did not
care for a cold nipple. So I used warmth just before she nursed. I don't
remember what form the warmth was in, maybe just leaving the ice packs off
for awhile was sufficient.
