The New Zealand Cot Death Study Group has recommended that infants sleep in
the same room as their parents at night to reduce the risks of SIDS. Their
case control study compared a number of variables, including sleeping
arrangements, in 393 babies who died of SIDS with 1592 controls. They found
the risk of sudden infant death decreased if the infant shared a room with
an adult. Lancet 1996;347:7-12 I don't have the complete article so I don't
know what else it says. Carolyn Lawlor-Smith LC/DR South Australia
