When an organic cause cannot be found, I wonder about the bras now
on the market contributing to plugged milk ducts. At our store we
are continuously seeking bras with a deep cup. If you'll look at
the Penney's maternity catalog this year at nursing bras, all but
two are "minimizer" styles with diagonal or vertical seamed cups.

This might be alright for non-lactating women (though I doubt it),
but to the lactating breast, it means a constant inward push by
the closed cup of the bra itself.

The bras on the market when I breastfed 25 years ago were much
deeper in the cup. Flexees brand [and they are not in the nursing
bra business any longer.] Two more women wore them after I was
done with them, they were so good.

The pill, hormones and antibiotics via eating animal flesh, greater
weight, ethnic background and heredity have affected the "bustiness"
of women in our lifetime. The bra industry knows that they making
larger and larger bras. The average size has gone from 36B to 36C
for the past ten years.

Even in nursing bras, we at our business, JudysIntimateApparel.com
carry large sizes and sell regular and nursing in G, H I & J cups.
We try to buy and fit with bras that have adequate depth at the apex
or nipple region. We don't even buy minimizer styles.

It is difficult when only one or two companies recognize the need
for this kind of 3-piece cup pattern. Other manufacturers are into
"fashion" statements and bras that don't look "institutional look"
as they say.

Another alternative is to seek out one of the "custom fit" type bra
sellers: Pennyrich, Figurette, Cameo, Jannette, Symbraette, Norvell,
etc. They are made from an entirely different pattern and have an
inner support band. Some women have said switching to this type
improved their plugged duct situation.
