Just to help Linda cheer up ;-)

The Bill is a really good TV police show - British. Last week one of the
policemen was having problems with his wayward teenage daughter (he'd
actually left her and her mother when she was little), but she's come to
him for help. He unexpectedly discovered she had a baby and when he walked
in and found her breastfeeding (nice and clearly shown on the screen) and
he became uncomfortable (embarrassed) she said, "It's only natural". This
is a very popular show here in Australia and i should imagine in Britain too.

The Western Australian state govt has provided funding for 150 births where
midwives are the primary caregiver. Kirsten Blacker (whose state it
happens in) gives the following statistics:
 >97% of babies were breast fed at three months postpartum
64% were still breast feeding at one year and about 30% fed up for two
years and beyond (the graph ran out). More than 50% didn't start solids for
six months.

This group of midwives has been collecting and publishing their statistics
religiously since the beginning making it exceptionally difficult for the
powers which would discourage such heretic behaviour to get a hearing. In
fact the group is being funded for more births.

Hang in there Linda. Do you have a file of thank you notes, or photos of
beautiful babies who have been breastfed because of your assistance? Just
pull it out and look at it on days like this.

Denise
