Well now I have to admit a vice and share a lovely view of breastfeeding as
just the lovely normal way of doing things in Mary Balogh's new book, Silent
Melody. It's a historical romance and the heroine's sister is breastfeeding
her three-four month old. At one point the baby looks up at the mom and the
mom just melts...the sister often spends time just talking with the heroine
while she's nursing. If we're going to change the culture, one goofy place
we're going to have to do it is in the popular reading market....this is a
historical bodice ripper (not too bad, for those of you who know me in a
more straight guise....), and lots of people will read it.

Also have to tell you I was noticing some very nice C-holds ("thumbs up for
breastfeeding") in the Ancient Egypt exhibit at the Field Museum of Natural
History in chicago. When Horus was being breastfed, his mom was using the
C. I've seen the scissors/cigarette hold in so much art, it was a surprise
to see this!
