I think that Terbinafine (Lamisil) has been out for a while. Hale
mentions it in his 1996 edition, and I know it has been available in
tablet and cream form in Australia for a couple of years.
The info given out by the manufacturer lists its main action against
tinea type organisms, and candida is only mentioned in the cream
form. I don't know if this is because it is not active against
candida in tablet form, or that the manufacturer just hasn't thought
it useful for systemic candidal infection. Apparently the tablets
have been associated (rarely) with liver problems.
 The tablets are
mostly used for fungal nail infections, where treatment can take
weeks or months. The cream is listed for tinea and candidal
infections of the skin.
Hale says it is highly protein bound, and only small amounts are
found in breastmilk (only two volunteers tested).
I have not heard of it being used systemically for candida, and I
don't know if it would have much benefit over fluconazole.
