It would not be harmful for a nursing mother to eat a low fat, low
cholesterol diet. Losing weight slowly, if appropriate, would also be
safe while breastfeeding.  If the cholesterol remains high after
weaning, then more "drastic" measures can be entertained, i.e., drug
therpy.  A registered dietitian (RD) should be able to assist a nursing
mother having high cholesterol with an appropriate diet. RD's are found
in many outpatient settings or in private practice.
