Actually in sclerotherapy the saline used is HYPERtonic very hypertonic -
very high in Sodium Chloride. However, it should still have no effect on
breastfeeding. It is only injected in very tiny amounts of it and the idea
is that it should only effect the immediate area it is injected into, it
should not be enough to affect her systemically. If it did, she'd have
strange heart rythyms and die! So there should be no concerns about
breastfeeding regardless.

Subject: ridiculous advice

Dear Friends:
Can you believe what Jenny tells us, " She's been told that since the
saline is injected directly in the vein, she will not be able to breastfeed
for 48 hours afterwards." ??
I guess we should tell our mothers not to eat a bag of potato chips or a
hot dog or canned soup either?
The saline that is used in an intravenous is 0.9% NaCl, the natural
salinity of tears, amniotic fluid, and supposedly the ancient Mother Ocean.
The same salinity as the IV mothers receive in inductions and with epidurals
and cesarean sections.
Tell her to ask for the evidence, and to do it with a straight face.
What idiotic advice!
    warmly,
