I carry both the compact and the hospital-grade electric pumps and have
found that what the mother stats using in theh ospital often makes a
difference in terms of her happiness with pumps later. As a result, I try
always to give her the same size pump she has already become familiar with.

In a few cases (not the majority) mothers have done better with the
hospital-grade size after using the smaller one. However, I also had a
mother who preferred the Lactina Select (where you can alter the speed of
piston action) over the hospital grade pump.  She said she got MORE milk
using it on a faster speed than is possible with the hospital-grade pump.

I have concluded that "different strokes for different folks" is especially
true for breastpumping mothers!  :-)   pun definitely intended
