My granddaughter is home from the service this week, and she and my
daughters came to our parish for mass Sunday on the feast of the Holy
Family. I had been on the lector assignment sheet for that day for at
least 3 months, to do some of the scripture readings.

My daughter's comment after mass: "Only my mother could come up with a
reading that referred to breastfeeding."

Of course, I didn't choose it. It was actually already there in the
regular cycle of scripture readings in the lectionary, but I wondered how
many in the congregation perceived the full significance of Hannah's
saying she would wait till Samuel weaned before taking him to the temple
to dedicate him to lifelong service in the temple, leaving him there with
Eli.

Had to have reached at least the age of reason (7 y.o.) don't you think?
