The first thing I suggest mom do is find a chiropractor or other bodyworker who knows how to adjust the pituitary. That alone might solve the problem. The vagal nerve is an oxytocin pathway, but it is also the pathway by which the gastrointestinal hormones are stimulated that improve metabolic efficiency in the gut (which is why women do not need extra calories to bf). If the vagal nerve is injured in birth, mom might need cranial work to normalize function.

Personally, I have been wondering how much more likely this problem is in women who have had cesareans or inductions, as synthetic oxytocin may cause the assaulted receptor sites in the mother's body to shut down, beginning with those in the gut.

Subject: Vomiting

I have a client who recently had an uneventful homebirth (besides SROM for five

days) and just like her previous postpartum experience (IOL with pitocin), she

vomits each time she breastfeeds. Clearly, now at day three she is exceptionally

exhausted. Praise the Lord he is a fabulous nurser, but mom doesn't snuggle much

because she tries to limit his time at the breast.

I appreciate this is related to the oxytocin release with let-down, but besides

palliative treatment, are there other options? I had prescribed phenergan and

toradol (she has increased cramping as well), but mom isn't comfortable with

pharmaceuticals. I then suggested homeopathy (ipecac) and chasteberry. She is

using an over-the-counter progesterone cream as well.
