Nova,

Thanks for having the courage to share something so painful with us. As
I said, it is the mothers who have done both types of feeding, who have
the most valuable contribution to make, the most meaningful and the most
immediate.

In support of your struggle to make sure mothers are given the
information and support they need, I'd like to expand upon your point
about milk banks. When ever matters about breastfeeding and formula are
raised, the rallying cry is always "Some women can not do it." This is
absolutely correct, and a few women, like you, find themselves not able
to produce enough milk. Formula is then held up as the 'saviour' in
this, and as you know, this isn't so. For the fact is that the formula
industry, and it's marketeering, prevents human milk being made
available for human babies. In a world with no formula industry, you
would have had all the human milk you needed. Formula 'replaces' human
milk, pushes it to one side, makes it non urgent and a non issue. If
every women who could breastfeed, did, there would be more than enough
surplus available for all. If there was no formula marketeering,
hospitals would faciltate this easily and cheaply, and many do in many
countries around the world. Formula creates a need for formula.

And, as you said, it is not even 2nd or 3rd best. WHO rates it as a bad
fourth, only just above raw animal milk at fifth.

I wish you all the best for you and your children, and again thank you,
for posting of your own experiences.
