The BAB, as you know, approaches issues from the perspective of "how to
counsel about..." for the most part.  It does provide a wealth of
information.  But Breastfeeding and Human Lactation by Riordan and Auerbach
is one of the definitive "scientific texts" on breastfeeding.  It covers the
same categories of issues presented in the BAB and also discusses research,
history, cultural perspectives and in depth anatomy and physiology of
breastfeeding. ( In fact, it is one of the texts my friend and I used in
studying for the IBCLC exam in 1998. During study sessions we would
periodically look at each other and let out blood curdling screams when
confronted with so much information to learn! ) So I guess it depends on how
much information your group Mom wants. :-) By the way, we were very glad, as
it turns out, to have all that wonderful information. :-)
