Subject: Re: [LACTNET] Brandi's post re: selling banked milk

We ordered human milk for my husband at age 57 when he was experiencing
esophageal bleeding from chemotherapy, but he passed away before it arrived
(by one day). The milk bank cancelled all the charges, despite the fact
that the milk had actually been shipped already.

**I discussed a similar issue when my dad was on the verge of dying. I
vigourously tried to relactate, but didn't have enough time: he passed away
before I could reach any result whatsoever. I don't even know if staff would
have permitted administration of my milk, probably not, but I would have
been very curious if it could have helped in preventing or curing his NEC.
And if not with my milk, then with other human milk-products, rather than
artificial. In our circles, we all know how wonderful the properties of our
milk are, but there are so many who don't. If human milk could be used on a
wider scale for medicinal purposes, I think that, again, could be a
wonderful development in the appreciation of this 'white gold'. All of this
not because I desperately need to prove 'we're right' and to defend
breastfeeding, but because I would love anyone to enjoy the benefits of
everything that is connected with it.
