Yes Michelle I do know of a woman who achieved a full milk supply after
haemorrhaging. Let me tell you about it. Note, this isn't my client but a
colleague's who is not on Lactnet. I have been trying to get her to write
up the case study for JHL - I hope to succeed one day!! Actually I think
I've written about it before on Lactnet.

Following birthing a full term infant this particular mother had a MASSIVE
bleed. Her entire blood volume was replaced several times. At one stage in
theatre she had 3 surgeons working on her trying to find and stop the
bleeding. Following this she ended up intubated in intensive care and was
given the last rites, her family told not to expect her to live.
Her sister knew that she wanted to breastfeed her baby... so asked if her
baby could be brought up and put to the breast while she was unconscious
and intubated. This happened, and photos were taken for the baby. Well ...
she began to recover and expressed a desire to breastfeed. Of course
everyone said she'd never get a milk supply (I must admit that though I
didn't say it, that was my thought too) ... but her LC said "No one has the
right to tell a mother that!!" and she pressured them to prescribe domperidone.
Well to cut a long story short, within a month the LC was trying to
convince the mother that she no longer needed to express or use the SNS
anymore because her freezer was full of breastmilk and the baby was as fat
as a puppy.

I will add here that this is an excellent LC and she left no stone unturned
to ensure everything was going for this mother to be able to establish a
milk supply.
