Rachael,

While it is, of course, the best for your friend's baby to have breastmilk,
and preferrably to have it full-time, I feel you are right in your decision
not to push. Ultimately, we all have to make decisions for ourselves, and in
our own, and hopefully our children's best interests.

The only suggestion I could make would be to ask her how long she thinks
she'll be taking off from school barring problems, before returning to school.
Even if it's only 2 weeks, you could recommend that she breastfeed exclusively
at least for that length of time, and then if she decides to continue giving
her child breastmilk full-time, that she could pump between classes. Just ask
her if she has ever considered that possibility. I'm retuning to school
tomorrow, and I know that usually your classes don't end up being back to back
unfortunately, and you end up with 40 mins. or more between classes. Might be
a good time to pump :) Keep in mind, though, that her baby will be receiving
the benefits of her breastmilk, and my personal feeling is, any amount
breastmilk is better than no breastmilk.

Be sure to congratulate her on her decision to breastfeed at this busy time in
her life. We all need to have the feeling that whatever small amount we feel
we can give, is a wonderful thing. If she feels it's not enough, and feels
it's all she can do... she may decide.."then what's the point in trying at
all," and we know that would be a far worse decision that to breastfeed part-
time instead of full-time.

Good luck,
