You have to remember that I was an LC from 1986 to 1991.  BF was not a 
priority for anybody on staff,  but me.  Another consideration was that I 
worked PT 5 days a week and I made it a point to never miss 2 days in a row 
if at all possible.

I think times have surely changed some with maternity nurses learning lots 
along the past 20 + years. I do think there is more policy (and Rachel's 
sounds great) and I like to hope they aren't handed out like bottles (or 
bottle nipples!) as in days gone by.  Today they should be in that med cart 
system, just like formula should be!

Skin to skin is the greatest tool we have now.  Early is key - as in 
immediately post delivery until first BF is successful.  Why are we in such 
a hurry anyway?  Pat in SNJ
