Occasionally, I come across a mother whose blocked duct/mastitis
appears to be the result of an overgrowth of very thin skin on an
exit point on the nipple, blocking off the 'escape'.

A mother is in touch with me , 4 weeks pp, who has had one incident
like this, which affected 2 exit points, and which she resolved by
lifting off the skin with a sterilised needle with midwife's help.

Now a week later it has happened again, and this time it is extremely
painful. The same areas of the nipple are affected.

How does this happen and what can she do to stop it recurring?

Baby is absolutely tip-top, and her postitioning and attachment seem
fine, according to trusted and trained observer.
