Friend of mine, ardent and informed lactavist, gave birth yesterday at
my local hospital in Bedford, UK. Darling little baby girl, 9lbs 5ozs.

Went to visit today, and take large quantities of high quality chocolate
for Mama's Milk Blues and Exhausted Daddy Panic, and to indulge in
unashamed newborn worship. Entire ward, lifts, corridors, plastered
with posters on the need to breastfeed exclusively.

She told me that at 3am this morning, when babbi was tired and fractious
and crying, midwife popped her head round the curtain and said ""You'll
have run out of colostrum by now. Big babies use up the tiny supply
very quickly and she's hungry as you don't have any left. Shall I take
her down to the Nursery and give you a rest?"

Friend declined, and said if she needed help, she'd call.

Of course, she wouldn't actually call the _staff_ if there was a problem...
