Dear Patricia,
We use them in our unit (38 bed NICU) with great success. Almost all moms
report healing within 3 days. We give them a handout (very basic) with
instructions and counsel them as to signs of mastitis and follow up daily
until they no longer need it. We assess them carefully for signs of yeast
also. A couple of moms have come to us with breast shells from other
hospitals and they don't seem to heal as quickly. As soon as we give the
hydrogel ( I hope it goes without saying) that we correct the problem for the
breakdown in the first place. I have only anecdotal evidence to give you at
this time, but I am sure it is studied somewhere. Our moms think it is great.
