I was at a conference today and one of the speakers was talking about the
wise use of LCs. :-) I don't think cleaning pumps is one of them. Years
ago when I was hospital LC I was told the unit secretary could no longer run
things off in the copy center for me. I told my nursing supervisor if they
wanted to pay me $25/hr to copy that was fine with me, but I thought it made
more sense for the unit secretary to do the copying at $10/hr. She quickly
changed her mind, LOL.

More about today's talk. The main gist, which I definitely agree with, is
that EVERY nurse working in maternity unit needs to be able to help most
mothers with basic breastfeeding. A mom should not have to wait for the LC
to come in. She said basic BF help is a skill set, just like skill sets
learned in other areas of the hospital, like cardiac , neuro, surgery etc.
Good presentation by one of my favorite speakers, Diane Spatz.
