Dear All,
HPV, or human papilloma virus, is the most common sexually transmitted 
disease in the USA. I tell my teens in my practice that they should 
expect to contract HPV at some point if they have multiple sexual 
partners, and of course even 1 partner is sufficient to contract this. 
Most HPV strains cause no problems, but we know that some strains of HPV 
cause cervical cancer. Some studies show that in married monogamous 
women, if they are screened and found negative for the cancer causing 
strains of HPV, they don't need further paps.
Many strains of HPV cause genital warts, including the strains that do 
and don't cause cervical cancer. Being HPV +, which is usually found by 
having genital warts or an abnormal pap, does not preclude vaginal delivery.
HPV is NOT spread via breastfeeding, so certainly women should NOT avoid 
breastfeeding.
