Is anyone aware of a link between breastfeeding and exacerbation of the
genetic (possibly autoimmune) bone remodeling disease otosclerosis? I
have read some speculation that estrogen or the hormonal changes of
pregnancy can accellerate the hearing loss from disturbance of the stapes
bone in this condition, but found no studies. Of course this woman is
being advised to stop breastfeeding so her hearing does not worsen. She
is inclined to continue bfing her baby and get a stapedectomy later.
TIA.
