Christy Shaw's recent posting (to point out that the University of
Washington's Drug Info line is for residents of the Pacific NW only)
prompted me to send in this follow-up to a question.
Several weeks ago I requested information on the Rocky Mountain Drug
Consultation Center because the number I had wasn't working. I have since
learned the correct number for people outside of Denver who wish to call
this center for information on drugs in lactation is 1-900-370-3784. This
is a 900 number, which means there is a charge per minute. The charge is
clearly explained when you call the number, at which time you are given
the option of hanging up and not being charged. They are available from 8
AM to 4 PM Mountain Time. For those who might need the number regularly,
subscriptions to the service are also available: contact the Poison &
Drug Center administration at (303) 739-1100.
It is my understanding that Denver residents can arrange to use this
service at no charge (via a different phone number), but others are
expected to pay the 900 line charges. Please note: I have not yet used
this service, but it has been recommended to me by several people, on and
off LACTNET.
Hope this is clear!
