Marsha says,

If anything, I think a company would
jump at making such a drug if they thought it would be a *blockbuster*
drug.

******************************************************

The problem is (looking at a galactogogue from a pharmaceutical POV), how
many women in the U.S. are going to actually NEED the medication? If I look at
the percentage of moms that I see in a year that actually need Domperidone
or Reglan, or even Fenugreek or another herbal, it is relatively small. I
don't think any company is going to find that these drugs are "blockbusters".
That's why it seems a tad ludicrous that the FDA is even paying the slightest
bit of attention to this issue with Domperidone. In the scheme of things,
this is penny ante.

If even 10% of the women who initiate breastfeeding in a given year actually
NEED Domperidone or another medication to increase supply (and I think that
is enormously high), that is still going to be only about 250,000 women --
tops. So I don't think when one is looking at releasing a medication, that
number justifies all the hoops a company has to jump thru to get the drug.

So again, why the FDA has jumped into this particular fray is definitely a
question that needs to be answered......
