I see now for the most part, at least where I come from, hand expression is
seriously lacking! I don't think more than maybe, maybe, one or two nurses
on our post-partum floor know how to do this. And that may be only the ones
who have had to self express themselves. You know the U.S. is backwards
when it comes to breasts and breastfeeding. Not trying to offend anyone
living here..but I think you know what I mean. I wish it was routinely taught.
Instead we use pumps. I wonder if I could have gotten more milk out myself
had I used the hand expression way more often. I could NOT let down to a
pump. Even at the peak of nursing, exclusively, I would not get more than
1/2 ounce. My baby was fat and happy. I was sore and engorged when I
came home from work. Thank goodness it was a part time job. And he came
with me some of the time. I think you across the ocean have had way more
experience then we Americans. I see that plainly when I read your posts
about all the moms expressing by the second day. We'll lets see if we can't
start turning this around.....Lets go ladies..

Always learning more,
robin
