Dear Naomi,
When you get the BFHI articles, would you please forward them to me? i just
got asked to give an hour talk on this topic as part of a comprehensive
lactation course. Do you know about the movie on BFHI that features
Evergreen Hospital? It gives viewers an understanding and appreciation of
Baby Friendly that goes deeper (on a feeling level) than any lecture I've
heard. As the BFHI coordinator at one of the designated facilities in the
US, I've found that many people, including LCs, misunderstand baby friendly.
There are lots of assumptions that it is a rigid set of rules which will
oppress mothers and staff in order to "enforce" breastfeeding. The film
goes a long way to dispel these suspicions and show BFHI for what it really
is, a standard of care.
