In addition to the other possibilities offered so far, warts should be ruled out whenever a nipple is bumpy --especially g iven the possibility of transmission to the infant's mouth . The bump "popping off" and leaving a bleeding hole made me think of how plantar warts can do that after treatment (e.g., soaking and then abrading with a callous file for several weeks).
