Teresa writes:

"If supplementation is necessary, why have I not seen many more babies with
Vitamin D deficiency problems? Even if I accept that some of the problems
will show up later in life, surely I should have seen some babies with the
more serious problems."

I find myself asking the same question - having breastfed all of my children
exclusively for 12 months, and then into toddlerhood, having birthed them
all in August, and 2 being born while we lived in the desert, I was cautious
about being in the sun, and still am cautious about burning (which they
never have), so when they are outside, which usually is from May-Nov, they
have worn protection. The first 2 were in NH during the winters, and now in
Utah, so snowy, cold winters that don't see us outside much. I have many
friends/acquaintances in the same situation, and again, like Teresa, NONE of
them were diagnosed with rickets or less severe forms of D deficiencies.
Why is that??

Joi, in hot and sunny Utah after last week's cold snap of 55-60!
