This tongue-tie issue keeps coming up over and over again. Please, lets all
ask the AAP or Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine to issue an updated
statement on this. I've searched all medical literature, offered my
exhaustive reference list to Lactnet 2 yrs. ago and continue to deal with
pediatricians who think JHL is not peer reviewed, Canadian and Australian
references are not relevant in the USA and E-mail letters from Dr. Lawrence
Gartner and Dr. Jack Newman are not reputable since they were obtained
through the internet! AAAUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!! In the pediatricians defense,
there is very little in THEIR pediatric literature defending frenotomy. It
seems to me that if change in this area is to take place, it must come from
the AAP first as few pediatricians read JHL (unfortunately!) and their
textbooks continue to caution against frenotomy. Any support for change in
this area will be greatly appreciated. Maybe some discussion at ILCA.......
