Help !! I live near a big city in the U.S.A, and a few of these hospitals
are leaving mothers to believe their babies are allergic to their breastmilk.
(this one case dealt with a team of GI doctors and nurses and residents) The
infant was 10 days old (del. was induced with pitocin and prostagladin gel
and last 5 min. were quick minor diffculty with breathin) and formula fed,
infant developed blood in stool, Pedi placed infant on soy formula, infant
refused formula, I approached mom about trying to breastfeed (she was still
complaining of engorged and leaking breast) mom stated she would do anything
to help infant, called the pedi was sent to big Hospital in city. Baby
diagnosed with colitis and allergy to whey, casein and lactoglobulin. Mother
told to absolutely, positively not breastfeed infant baby would be allergic
to her milk. Infant placed on expensive hydrolysed formula. Is this true?
I had never heard of infant being allergic to breastmilk unless they had
Galactosemia. I would appreciate any comments.
Thanks
