Hi Katharine,

I read your post with much interest. By the time my nursing toddlers turn
two, I become a closet nurser.  I am constantly struggling with this issue
especially since I am a LLLLeader, I feel like I should help people to
realize that extended nursing is normal.  I am still struggling with this as
are the rest of the closet nursers.

When my oldest was two,  I would explain to her that we had errands to run
and if she wanted milk, she would need to have it now and/or wait until
later.  We only did this if we were not going to a breastfeeding friendly
place.  Of course, she would always nurse before we left.  I am not sure if
this arrangement would have worked if she was not ready.

My son was very interested in his surroundings so he never wanted to nurse
when we were out.  Now, my 21 month old loves to nurse.  I am still not sure
what we will do.  Maybe this will be the one to bring us out of the closet.

In Hawai'i, one of our LLL groups is a toddler group.
