Went into Alphagraphics today to pick up all my handouts for the March of
Dimes conference (for those of you wondering if I'm accepting money from Mead
Johnson, the answer is NO NO NO and NO. Everything, including handouts,
snacks, room, AV, and honorarium, is taken out of the registration fees for
my particular program). Anyway, the woman that got me my order was one that
I had rented a pump to ages ago (her "baby" is now in kindergarten.) The
other one was one who had chatted with me about the (anti)scheduling
(Prep/Babywise) flyers a few months ago). They both wondered if I had seen
the program -- no I hadn't -- good thing, or I probably would have smashed
the TV. Anyway, it was interesting to get the "consumer" point of view --
they were absolutely livid about the way breastfeeding and the lactation
"counselor" were portrayed in the program. It really upset them a lot. Both
were breastfeeding moms -- and one of them said, "Why on earth didn't the
mother call HER mother -- I was on the phone every week wondering what was
going on with my baby." Thought that was an interesting perspective.

So, are lots of people going to write to NBC? I certainly hope so...of
course, they want a story line? I could give them a story line -- how about
the baby that dies of anaphylactic shock after being fed formula, and no one
asked the parents about allergies? What about the baby who ends up on tube
feedings because of her aversion to food after being put on a strict
schedule and ignored when she was hungry because it wasn't "time to eat?"

Jan -- hoping ER is not about mothers & babies tonight.
