Well, that's the reasoning behind doing research...precisely so we
*can* say whether gadgets (or anything else) have an effect or not.

Using research (such as from the MAIN trial I quoted from before)  we
can say the nipple formers didn't have any effect, and she was just
as likely to succeed doing nothing.

Using research, we can also say it was the support she found, and her
own motivation, that made the difference : )
