Yes, as a little girl I remember a "cousin" of my mother, who had been the
midwife in a small town in Puerto Rico (Manati), telling me, when she saw an
adult who had a speech impediment because of tongue tie, that she was sure
she had not delivered him because if she had, she would have taken care of
it - and she made a "swiping" motion with her pinkie indicating how she used
to use her nail to do this!

Of course it was not until DECADES later that this made any sense to me at
all.but obviously it impressed me enough that I remember it at age 69!

This would have been pre-World War II (and antibiotics) - and maybe even WW
I, come to think of it, as she was older than my grandmother!

After being a La Leche League Leader since 1975 and an IBCLC since 1985 I
feel qualified to confirm the statement:

"Half of the information we teach today is wrong.the trouble is, we don't
know which half!"
