Very good question, Pam. Currently there is a Clinical Instructor Workshop
designed for individuals interested in "mentoring" Lactation Consultant
Interns. It is offered through BSC as a distance learning course, and Linda
Kutner and I will be teaching it as a four hour workshop at the ILCA
conference this summer.

Completion of this workshop currently is a requirement for anyone who is
functioning as a clinical instructor for an LCI in the BSC/IBLCE Blueprints
Pilot/Research Project.

Whether something like this will be required in the future is anyone's guess.
But I share your concern that IBCLCs who are functioning as clinical
instructors need to know how to TEACH, not just have LCIs following them
around observing for several hundred hours.

one of her former lives.
